Know What Equipment is Being Used On You
Why TGA & Compliance Matters

TGA approval matters because it confirms a device has been independently assessed for safety, quality and performance before being sold as a therapeutic device in Australia, giving both you and your clients confidence it does what it claims without unnecessary risk. Equipment that isn’t TGA approved hasn’t been through that scrutiny, so there’s no guarantee around calibration, materials, or manufacturing standards — this can lead to inconsistent or unsafe results, increased risk of burns, tissue damage or infection, and no manufacturer accountability if something goes wrong. It can also expose a clinic to insurance and liability issues, since many policies require TGA-approved equipment for treatments to be covered.

How do I know If the Equipment Used On Me Is TGA Approved?

Simply ask your practitioner for the device’s ARTG (Australian Register of Therapeutic Goods) number and check it yourself on the TGA website (tga.gov.au) — a compliant clinic will have this information on hand without hesitation. You can also look for the device brand and model displayed in the treatment room or on their website then Google or search it on the ARTG to confirm it’s listed and active. If a practitioner can’t or won’t provide this information, it’s worth asking why before going ahead with treatment.
